ROSARIO MURILLO UNLEASHES A RANT OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS.

Rosario Murillo delivered her daily address on November 28 with the same poise as always. She recited psalms, praised Jehovah, congratulated Denis Moncada on his birthday, congratulated the military academy’s class of 2018, and gave kudos to the police academy graduating cadets. She reminded everyone that “Our President will inaugurate the new overpass at Las Piedrecitas”, and reassured “Nicaraguan families” that the two quakes that were registered in Nicaragua were minor.

The one thing she never mentioned directly was the sanctions levied against her. However, in choosing Psalm 91 as her starting point and main inspiration, Murillo struck a defiant chord. Psalm 91 is about God favoring and protecting those who “dwell in the shelter of the Most High.”

In other words, Psalm 91 says that if you place your trust in God, you will be protected and safe from anything, including “fowlers”, plagues, “the terror of the night”, arrows, and pestilence. Moreover, that person will will witness the “punishment of the wicked” (read Psalm 91 here)

Rosario Murillo certainly sees herself as someone who “dwells under the shadow of the Almighty”. She believes it so much that she not only recited the entire psalm, but also paraphrased it and repeated the juiciest bits again, several times.

“We dwell in the shelter of the Almighty, our Hope, Our Castle. The Shadow of the Almighty frees us from the fowler’s snare and from the destructive pestilence. It frees us from any pestilence luring in the darkness, or from the death that destroys midday. Thousands will fall by your side, and ten thousand on your right, but it shall not touch you. We dwell under the shadow of the Almighty! and therefore, with Faith, full of Hope, and will full trust on God, our Lord, we move Forward! Our Nicaragua moves Forward!”

And… there’s more. Murillo announced that the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) just granted new financing to Nicaragua. It will be used for infrastructure projects, such as roads and airports. She did not disclose how much credit was extended. As of this morning, CABEI has not made an official announcement on the matter.

Nevertheless, everything is a win in Rosario Murillo’s mind. In fact, she declared that the regime was on the path to “victories”, a word she repeats seventeen times throughout the speech, in various iterations:

Victories of Today
Victories of Tomorrow!
Victories of Peace!
Victories of Life
Victories of Love
A Commitment to Peace and Victories that cannot be diminished
More Victories!
Enormous Victories.
Victories!

So much winning!

Unfortunately, there are people who don’t like all that winning. Murillo had some choice words for those people: “Let’s be certain, brothers and sisters, that they could not, they cannot, and they shall not pass!”.

And Murillo is certain of this, because “if God be for us, who can be against us? ”

That’s Romans, 8:31, y’all!

There are many more biblical references throughout the speech, as Murillo really digs her nica version of the doctrine of the divine right of kings. This doctrine states that kings and queens have a god-given right to rule, and thus, rebelling against them is sinful. Murillo does not mention sin in this speech, but she has done so before. In her July 7 address, in the midst of Operation Clean Up, she accused anyone manning the barricades or participating in protests of “crimes and many sins” against “love, against caring, against progress, against prosperity, against the common good“.

Pot, meet kettle.

Dear Rosario, I have a quote for you too. It’s from Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice”

“The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose.
An evil soul producing holy witness
Is like a villain with a smiling cheek,
A goodly apple rotten at the heart.
O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!”
